For those of you who don’t know, I broke my wrist on January 10th and had surgery on the 28th involving plates and screws. Ugh.
I will be fully functional in 6 weeks. During this time, I have still been holding classes, (except for the day of my surgery and the day after), and those Shelly Clark has been graciously covering for me. I am so grateful to her for her wisdom and teaching expertise. Shelly will be teaching the Wednesday Drop-in classes this month. Typing is really a bore because I have to “hunt and peck” with one hand, so please forgive the lack of detail in this newsletter. Go to the class schedule link on the website for the times and prices of upcoming sessions. A new Power Hour Session started on Feb. r. There is room in that class this month, so if you want to try power vinyasa flow, this is your chance!
On Thursdays, starting Febraury 13th and running 6 weeks (no class March t), I will be doing a “Variety Pack”. Each week there will be a different emphasis: Yin, Backbends & Twists, Core, Angles, Flow and a Meditative Practice. This is a great class for anyone who is beyond the “raw beginner” stage. If you know a Down Dog from a Pigeon, you can join Variety Pack.
On Tuesdays, starting February 18th and running for 6 weeks, I am doing something I have never done before. I am calling it: Yoga: The Deeper Practices. I designed this class before my wrist injury but I believe the “gift” of my injury was to force me to really practice this way, and by that I mean to practice a yoga that is not totally “asana- focused.” I am limiting this class to 12. I am envisioning the ideal student for this class as someone who has been practicing postures long enough to have intuited that postures aren’t the “point” of yoga. Someone who has considered, and actually made, big life changes as a result of what they have experienced on the mat. In this class we are going to read and discuss the Bhagavad-Gita as a group. We are going to strive to practice the Yamas and Niyamas in our daily lives. For this class I am asking that in addition to the price of the session that each person buy two books: The Bhagavad-Gita and Paths to God.
There will be homework each week.
There will be discussion each week
There will be a physical practice each week.
If this sounds really interesting to you, let me know.
Due to my injury, Happy Hour on Friday February 14th will be a regular Happy Hour drop in class and not the Partner Yoga class on the original Feb. calendars.
Thank you to my students for their forbearance during this time of injury. I have learned many things while practicing the yoga of injury, foremost is an increased empathy for people with physical challenges and limitations. What a gift!
Love and Namaste,
