April 2015 MSY Newsletter

Hi Yogarians,

Im so excited to show off the Yoga offerings at MSY this month. Youve got your pick of 3 teachers and a great line-up of classes.

In addition, its YOGA CHALLENGE MONTH! Check out the details below.

So first, the month’s offerings.

Whether or not you are doing the Challenge this month, these are your classes. There is Power Yoga with me on Mondays for the person who likes a challenge. There is Gentle Yoga, also with me, on Tuesdays. This class is perfect for the beginner or anyone who appreciates a softer class. On Wednesdays, Shelly Clark will be teaching a Meditative Posture Flow in the Pranakriya style. This class uses longer holding times in some poses to access deeper states of awareness. On Thursdays Sandy McDivitt will be teaching Sun-sational Yoga designed around the classic Sun Salutation. To register for any of these class, just click the REGISTER ME FOR THIS CLASS link next to the class you want.

FAQ For the

ELITE YOGA CHALLENGE

2015

Q: WHAT IS THE ELITE YOGA CHALLENGE?

A: The "EYC” is a practice challenge in the month of April designed for people willing to commit to a 1 hour yoga practice every day for 30 consecutive days.

Q: WHO CAN JOIN?

A: Anyone can join, regardless of prior yoga experience. Beginners and Advanced students are both welcome. Know though, that as Yoga Challenge participants you will be attending all the regular classes the studio offers in April, and some of them are more vigorous than others. There will be little to no instruction in these classes, but Beginners who are willing to take care of themselves can usually do fine.

Q: WHAT ARE THE RULES?

A: You must come to class for 30 consecutive days without a miss.

Q:  WHAT IF IF I HAVE TO MISS EASTER SUNDAY, CAN I STILL PARTICIPATE?

A: No.  You must show up every day. If you know that you will have to miss a day for any reason, you can't play.

Q: SO HOW DO I JOIN? WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

A: All you have to do is Email me and tell me you want to be in. You have automatic eligibility if you have ever "won" a Yoga Challenge in the past, but you still have to email me. There is only room for 17 people. You must let me know by this Friday, March 27th

Q: WHAT HAPPENS IF MORE THAN 17 PEOPLE APPLY?

A: If more than 17 people apply, there will be a lottery. All names (minus pre-qualified people) will go into a drawing to be held at the Happy Hour Yoga class on March 27st.

Q: WHAT ARE THE CLASS TIMES?

A: The classes for the EYC are the same classes as the regular April Schedule.  Challengers will be practicing side-by-side with non-Challengers all month.

For the benefit of the Challengers, evening classes, and weekend classes will be added. These additional classes will be open to non-Challengers only if Challenge participants don’t fill the room.

Those special class times are: 7 PM Mon-Thurs, 6 PM Friday, 10 AM Saturday, and 11 AM Sunday.

Q: WHAT IS THE FEE FOR EYC?

     A: $30.

Q: DOES EVERYONE PAY JUST $30 FOR CLASSES IN APRIL?

A: No. This price is only for the people in the challenge.

Q: WHAT IF I JOIN THE CHALLENGE BUT DESPITE ALL GOOD INTENTIONS, I GET SICK OR OTHERWISE HAVE TO MISS A CLASS?

A: If you miss a class you are OUT of the EYC. "The tribe has spoken."

Q: ISN'T THIS KIND OF HARSH?

     A: My game, my rules.

Q: DOES THIS MEAN THERE COULD BE A "SOLE SURVIVOR?"

     A: It certainly does.

Q: IF I BONK ON THE EYC, CAN I STILL COME TO THE REGULAR CLASSES?

A: By all means!  But you will have to take them off your flex from then on.

Q: HOW MANY PEOPLE DID THE EYC CHALLENGE LAST YEAR?

     A: 10

Q: HOW MANY FINISHED?

     A: 10

Q: YOU WANNA NAME NAMES?

     A:

  • Teresa Capuzzo
  • Jennifer Lehman
  • Sherry Mathews
  • Sandy McDivitt
  • Tom Moritz
  • Linda Murray
  • Gena Rasmussen
  • Pamela Taggart
  • Sarah Wunderlich
  • Nikki York

Q: WHAT’S THE POINT OF THESE 30 DAY YOGA CHALLENGES ANYWAY?

A: Read my blog post 15 Reasons To Do A 30 Day Yoga Challenge.

Q: WILL THERE BE A PARTY AT THE END?

A: Oh, don't you worry! There will be a party at the end! But it won't be an exclusively "Yoga Challenge" party; it will be to celebrate the existence of the studio, and the people who love it. Everyone is invited. The EYC-ers will have a separate celebration just for them, but they will take a bow at the regular party.

Q: ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS?

A:  I am amped about it! I cannot wait to see who I get to play with for a month!
